Strong female characters are twice as likely to be dismissed as a "Mary Sue" in science fiction than strong male characters. In this presentation, author LG Ransom will discuss the origins of the "Mary Sue" curse, the difference between a strong female character and a "Mary Sue," the concept of the Bechdel test, as well as the unfair bias the literary world has toward strong female characters in science fiction.
